Registration
For Online Semesters: Lab Course will be added automatically immediately after Add/Drop period by the registration office.
The list of the Phys courses and the associated Phyl courses are listed below:
Phys 101 and Phys 121 students -> Phyl 101
Phys 102 and Phys 130 students -> Phyl 102
Phys 201 students -> Phyl 201
Phys 202 students -> Phyl 202
For Regular Semesters: Check the date for Lab registration. Detailed information is given on Registration page.
On Spring 2023 NO PHYL course will be online, ALL Labs will be face to face.
For online Semesters: Lab hours are fixed. Just check Moodle page for the Lab course.
For regular Semesters: Finalize your Schedule. All PSes and Labs of other courses must be definite. If you plan to add and drop any course, picture the final schedule after add/drop before you come for Lab Registration.
For Online Semesters: Follow the University Registration instructions. The list of the Phys courses and the associated Phyl courses are listed below:

For Regular Semesters: Lab Registration is done at KB 410. Fill your SCHEDULE on the given empty program paper. Leave your program to the ASSISTANT. Do not leave your program if you are not sure about your course schedule.
You have to prove that you work part-time. Your priority is your courses. In some cases you may be asked to change your work hours.
For Online Semesters: Phyl courses have several sections. All the sections of each courses will be done at the same time at 17:00 on Mondays and Thursdays.
The sections will be shuffled every week. That means a student who is at 3rd section at first week might be any section next week. Folllow Moodle for your section.
For Regular Semesters: Lab sections are announced at Lab Web Page. Announcement date is given on Registration page.
For Online Semesters: Lab Grades taken on a regular semester are valid. Lab Grades from Summer 2020 are not valid. Lab grades from Online Semesters except Summer 2020 are valid.
For Regular Semesters: Lab Grades older than Fall 2003 are not valid.
For Online Semesters: Most recent Lab Grade taken on a regular semester are valid. Lab Grades from Summer 2020 are not valid. Lab grades from Online Semesters except Summer 2020 are valid. You may not repeat online Lab garde at online semester and face to face lab grade at online semester to increare your Lab Grade.
For Regular semesters: The most recent Lab Grade taken are valid.
It is up to you to repeat the lab. Your most recent Lab Grade will be valid after all. If you fail you have to repeat it again. If your grade is lower than previous Lab Grade, the last one will be valid.
BUT; If you took the Lab online (except Summer 2020) it is valid all the time just like face to face labs. If you took the Lab on Summer 2020, you must repeat the Lab anyway.
Getting Started
- You will be given presentation videos to watch for each experiment. Watch them days before and read the information given at "Part I. Basic Methods" in your Lab Book.
- There will be a zoom session.
- Use a computer to join the zoom session and to watch the Lab Data videos.
- Before each lab session starts make sure that you print the pages involving the relevant experiment of the Lab text book whose copy can be found in the lab web page (https://physlab.boun.edu.tr) or on the moodle page for your course.
- Keep these pages, pen, pencil, eraser, calculator, ruler, compasses, a protractor and your cell phone with you during the session. You will have to use your cell phone as a stop watch when it is needed.
- Ask your questions to your Lab instructor not to your friends.
- FROM THE START OF SESSION you are given 2 hours to complete and upload your lab report to moodle.
- You are expected to scan the Lab report and if exist additional materials as a pdf file
- Name your pdf file as “YourName-NameOfExperiment.pdf” Make sure that it is less than 2MB. You may upload max 20 files each 2MB.
- Upload your pdf file to Moodle in the given time.
- You will be given presentation videos to watch for each experiment. Watch them days before and read the information given at "Part I. Basic Methods" in your Lab Book.
- Sit a table shown by your instructor. at the Lab.
- If you work with a partner, take the data together but after that work seperately. Your Lab Report must be unique. Similar Lab reports are not accepted.
- Use pen to fill your Lab Report. Draw graphs with pencil.
- While you do the experiment and fill your Lab Report, use the information given at "Part I. Basic Methods" in your Lab Book.
- Ask your questions to your Lab instructor not to your friends.
- Use your own calculator, pen, pencil and eraser.
- After you complete your Lab Report leave it to your Lab Instructor.
In your Lab book, Part.I Basic Methods is important. You are advised to read that part. You are required to use the worksheets to report your results. You should include all your calculations and measurements to show that you have completed the experiment fully and carried out the required analysis yourself.

For Online Semesters:
A Computer: If you do not any, borrow one from a friend for the Lab.
Lab Book : Lab reports which are not written on Lab Book will not accepted
Pen, Pencil, Eraser: necesseray for clean and neat Lab report. Otherwise you miss points.
Calculater: a calculater other than your cell phone's calculator application is better for sin, cos, log, ln calculations.
Ruler, Compasses, Protractor: in most of the experiments you will need to measure length, and angle and you may need to draw a circle.
Your Cell Phone: You will have to use your cell phone as a stop watch when it is needed.
For Regular Semesters: Bring your Lab Book (without your Lab book you miss the lab), calculator, pen, pencil, and eraser with you. No mobile phone is allowed in the Laboratory.
There will be a Quiz before you start each experiment and it is graded max 2 pt over 20. Read the relevant material from your Lab Book and your text book before coming to the Lab.
Missed Labs & Excuses
There is no make up for missed labs unless you are charged for duty by the university or the exam of another course is given at the same hour.
Bring a paper from your Professor explaining that you have/had an exam. Make up for your Lab in any section which is good for you during the same experiment period by giving the excuse paper to the Lab instructor.
- A paper given by the university showing that you are charged for some duty: You can make up the missed experiment same experiment period with this excuse.
- Any appointment from Consulate/Police etc. : You can make up the missed experiment same experiment period with this excuse.
- A paper from the Professor that you have an exam of another course at the same hour: You can make up the missed experiment same experiment period with this excuse.
- A proper medical excuse is a doctor's report taken from one of the following; our infirmary (revir), a state hospital in Istanbul. Reports from hospitals outside of Istanbul are not accepted: No make up.
- Non medical excuses will be considered seperately: No make up.
- For the first week, before and after holidays any excuse will be suspicious and considered seperately.
There is NO LIMIT for missed labs. But missed Lab grade will be ZERO. Final average Lab Grade must be at least 10 over 20 to pass.
- The Course Name (Phys 101, 102,... etc.)
- Your name clearly
- Your Lab Section (example: MM56)
- Date that you missed the Lab.
- Number of the Lab week (example: 5th Experiment)
Your excuses will be evaluated at the end of the semester.
Grading & Exam
Minimum grade to pass the Lab is 10 over 20.
There is no Lab Exam make up.
If the average of your Lab Reports is 10 or more, you pass the Lab. The contribution of your Exam will be ZERO if you don't take the exam.
